Medically managed intensive inpatient services (ASAM Level 4.0) are defined by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) as acute care hospitals and are the designated setting for medically managed intensive inpatient treatment. Medically managed intensive inpatient services offer medically directed acute withdrawal management and related treatment designed to alleviate acute emotional, behavioral, cognitive, or biomedical distress resulting from, or occurring with, a member's use of alcohol and other drugs. Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs) are programs certified by the United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) that engage in supervised assessment and treatment, using methadone, buprenorphine, L-alpha acetyl methadol, or naltrexone, of members who are addicted to opioids. Opioid Treatment Services (OTS) includes the use of Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) in addition to the psychotherapy services to treat a member with an OUD.

OTP providers must be licensed by DBHDS as a provider of Medication Assisted Opioid Treatment/Opioid Treatment Services and contracted by the Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) and the DMAS fee-for-service Contractor as an Addiction and Recovery Treatment Services (ARTS) OTP Provider.

For treatments, take home doses have a maximum 28-day limit dispensing at a time and must be approved by the State Opioid Treatment Authorities (SOTA).
